A trusted person in the room
There are times when the answer is not another consultant, another report or another layer of process. It is having someone experienced enough to understand the situation quickly, independent enough to say what needs to be said, and practical enough to help turn decisions into outcomes.
1813 provides that perspective without bringing a predetermined answer. The role is to understand the context, ask the difficult questions, bring experience to bear and help the people who own the decision make it with confidence.
Objective advice,
always.
To your context
and priorities.
For outcomes
that matter.
To say what needs
to be said.
Where I can help
Eight areas of experience. Detailed capability pages show the skills, judgement and relevant experience behind each.
Helping owners and leadership teams navigate the business, organisational and operational realities before, during and after a transaction.
Independent challenge, clear choices and a practical route from strategic intent to execution.
Reshaping organisations, roles and ways of working so the business can deliver what the strategy requires.
Rapid diagnosis and decisive intervention when a critical programme is off track, over-complex or losing confidence.
Turning data and AI into practical business capability, better insight and measurable value — rather than technology for its own sake.
Clarifying how the business creates value, who does what, how decisions are made and how the model works in practice.
Creating practical measures that improve focus, accountability and decision-making rather than simply producing more reporting.
Experienced, independent leadership for owners and senior teams who need a trusted person in the room without creating another permanent executive role.

M&A / INTEGRATION
The Deal Was Only the Beginning
Separating a business is rarely just a transaction. A UK insurance operation had to become independent from a US parent while remaining fully operational and regulated. More than 150 applications, 100 vendors and shared data and services had to be disentangled against a fixed deadline. The challenge was to establish the right operating model and technology boundary without creating unnecessary cost or disrupting the business.

DATA & AI
AI Is a Business Tool
The organisation wanted to demonstrate AI adoption, but the business problem was less clear than the technology ambition. Rather than begin with vendors or use cases, the work started with the outcomes the business actually needed and the data required to support them. The result was a more practical path from AI enthusiasm to useful business capability — proving that AI is a tool, not the strategy.

Experience changes the conversation.
Some challenges need advice. Others need someone to take responsibility for moving things forward.
1813 can be brought into the business at different points and with different levels of involvement, from providing experienced judgement around a significant decision to taking an active leadership role through a period of change.
An experienced voice alongside the CEO, Chair or board — helping test strategy, challenge assumptions, understand consequences and ensure that important decisions can actually be executed.
More intensive leadership alongside the C-suite, helping turn strategy into an organisation capable of delivering it — through strategy, organisational design and operating model change.
Leadership for complex, consequential change — bringing direction, judgement and delivery discipline to M&A, programme rescue, data and AI transformation and major multi-year programmes.
The thinking behind 1813
Leadership! is a collection of 52 short reflections on leadership, drawn from more than three decades of experience in the London Market and international insurance.
The ideas in the book have helped shape the thinking behind 1813 Advisory, particularly the belief that leadership is less about having the answers and more about knowing how to navigate uncertainty, challenge assumptions, create clarity and focus on what really matters. Leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about creating the conditions in which the right decisions can be made and having the courage to make them.
That same thinking sits at the heart of 1813: practical experience, sound judgement and a focus on what happens when strategy meets reality.
Leadership! is ultimately about the lessons that experience teaches you, how to make better decisions, when to challenge, when to trust, when good enough really is good enough, and how to create the conditions for other people to succeed.
